He’s successfully launched the Spanish-language series El Lider de la Manada in Spain… And, now César Millán is hoping to bring an English-language version of the show to the United States.
The 42-year-old Mexico-born self-taught dog training expert—who rose to fame as the host of the reality television series The Dog Whisperer with César Millán, now in its seventh
season and airing in more than 100 countries around the world—is shopping the English-version of El Lider, which translates to Leader of the Pack, to U.S. networks.
In each episode of El Lider, Millán rehabilitates a homeless or abandoned dog and matches it with one of three contestants who compete to provide the dog with the best home.
El Lider premiered on Spain’s Cuatro network earlier this month to 1.4 million viewers, about five-times the average viewership for The Dog Whisperer on the same network.
The solid launch helped fast-track an English version of El Lider, which should start shooting a 12-epidode season in April. The show would premiere on an American network in December 2012.
In addition to The Leader of the Pack, Millán is also currently developing two TV specials to air in the U.S. next year.
