Mariah Carey is back at the top of the global charts…
The 52-year-old half-Venezuelan Grammy-winning singer’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reclaims the crown on the Billboard Global 200 chart dated December 18), following several weeks atop the tally last holiday season.
Carey’s insta-classic single ascends 2-1 on the Billboard Global 200, with 76.3 million streams (up 25%) and 14,000 sold (up 28%) worldwide in the December 3-9 tracking week.
The 1994 modern holiday standard topped the chart for four weeks last holiday season, beginning a year ago this week.
Billboard’s global chart, which launched in September 2020 and recently marked its first year, ranks songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by MRC Data. The Billboard Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data, while the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the U.S.
Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.
