Mariah Carey’s got the writestuff…
This year’s inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame have been revealed, with the 49-year-old half-Venezuelan American singer/songwriter earning a spot.
CBS‘ Anthony Mason announced the inductees, beginning with Carey, whose record 19 solo No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits he touted, praising the singer for her “stunning five-octave range” and for co-writing most of her hits, including her recent long-awaited No. 1 insta-holiday classic, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
Carey, a five-time Grammy winner, has penned or co-written some of her biggest hits, including “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” “Fantasy,” “We Belong Together,” “Emotions,” and “Make It Happen.”
In all, Carey wrote or co-penned 18 of her 19 Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers:

The inclusion of the Eurythmics’ Lennox and Carey helps to address the gender imbalance in the SHOF, which has inducted 439 songwriters since 1970, only 31 of whom are women (7%).
