It’s a special milestone for Demi Lovato…
The 24-year-old part-Mexican American singer is celebrating five years of sobriety this week.
Lovato posted an Instagram photo documenting her journey with a heartfelt message expressing her gratitude and pride for making it this far.
“So grateful. It’s been quite the journey. So many ups and downs. So many times I wanted to relapse but sat on my hands and begged God to relieve the obsession,” writes the Grammy-nominated singer. “I’m so proud of myself but I couldn’t have done it without my higher power (God), my family, friends, and everyone else who supported me. Feeling humbled and joyful today. Thank you guys for sticking by my side and believing in me.”
Lovato checked into alcohol rehab orlando fl, in 2010 for three months after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She has since been an activist for mental health and encourages self-love to her fans through her music.
“Skyscaper” — the first single she released after opening up about her struggles — reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in 2011.
Her latest album, Confident, earned Lovato her first-ever Grammy nomination. And, it peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in November 2015.
