He’s one of Broadway’s brightest talents, having co-created the Tony-winning musicals The Book of Mormon and Avenue Q… And, now Robert Lopez is hoping expand his creativity beyond The Great White Way.
The 36-year-old three-time Tony Award winning composer/ lyricist and his brother Billy Lopez have signed a blind script deal with ABC Studios in hopes of co-creating a television series.
The Lopez brothers do have some television experience. They composed music for Nickelodeon’s The Wonder Pets, for which they nabbed two Daytime Emmy Awards.
In addition, Robert wrote four songs for the “My Musical” episode of the comedy series Scrubs, which was produced by ABC Studios. He even earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his work.
Robert made his TV writing debut last year with an episode of Comedy Central’s long-running South Park, created/executive produced by his Book of Mormon collaborators Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
