Does Barbara Gonzalez like her martinis shaken or stirred? We’ll soon find out!
The 27-year-old Spanish athlete and gymnast has become the first Spaniard to represent the Martini image worldwide, following in the footsteps of actresses Charlize Theron and Monica Bellucci.
“I’m really happy, it’s like a dream,” said Gonzalez in a statement. “I’m going to work very hard so as not to disappoint all those putting their trust in me.”
Gonzalez, who formed part of Spain’s rhythmic gymnastics team at the Athens Games and Beijing Olympics, says she always looks “on the bright side” of things and learns from any mistakes to help her improve. And she always tries to get the most fun out of everything she does.
“My slogan is: when you do things wholeheartedly and you really love and believe in what you’re doing, it makes the difficult easy,” she said.
Gonzalez, who was chosen by a jury to embody the brand’s values – “Luck is an Attitude” – will be the Martini image at all the Italian brand’s events and campaigns in 2013, a year that marks the company’s 150th anniversary.
Current Martini man, Yuri Buzzi, has said that ever since he laid eyes on Gonzalez he knew she would be the winner .
But it wasn’t an easy task, since more than 3,500 women from 23 countries were vying to be the brand’s spokesperson.
