The 20-year-old half-Mexican American singer/actress has just released the first track off her next album, a breakup anthem called “Rule The World.”
“Our love was made to rule the world / You came and broke the perfect girl / Forget you ever knew my name,” sings Gomez on the dancetatsic track.
Gomez, who is starring in the edgy Spring Breakersand The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex, told MTV News in January that “big turn” in her personal and professional life happened right in the middle of recording her album, adding that “it was incredible to see how I applied that to music because I’ve never done that before and it’s great.”
The former Disney Channel star, who broke up with longtime boyfriend Justin Bieber earlier this year, went on to say, “I think the older I’m getting the more I’m just kind of like I’m cool to share my side of the stories as much as I can, so I’m having a lot of fun.”
She may be starring in more grown-up projects like Spring Breakers… But that doesn’t mean Selena Gomez is forgetting her Disney Channel roots.
