The CW is hoping the rhythm is gonna get you this summer—with a little help from Gloria Estefan.
The network has given a series order to a nationwide competition series called The Star Next Door featuring the 54-year-old Cuban singer who recently became the first female artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.
Similar to NBC’s The Voice, the singing competition will feature mentors—including Estefan, Queen Latifah and John Rich—traveling across the country looking for the best and brightest to compete and represent their hometowns when they face-off in Hollywood.
Latifah will executive produce the series, alongside CBS‘ Raquel Productions, 25/7 Productions and Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment. Additional mentors will be announced at a later date.
Star Next Door joins a crowded field of music-themed reality competition series, including The Voice, Fox’s The X Factor and American Idol.
