Cardi B is this year’s Latina queen of the MTV Video Music Awards…
MTV has released its 2019 VMA nominations, with the 26-year-old half-Dominican American rap sensation earning four nods, the most of any Hispanic artist.
Cardi B, last year’s Best New Artist winner, earned an Artist of the Year nod, where she’ll compete against Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Halsey, Jonas Brothers and Shawn Mendes.
Cardi B, a three-time MTV VMAs winner, is also nominated in the Best Pop category for “Please Me,” her collaboration with Bruno Mars; in the Best Hip-Hop category for “Money;” and in the Best Dancec ategory for “Taki Taki,” her chart-topping collaboration with DJ Snake, Ozuna and Selena Gomez.
J Balvin, a two-time VMA winner last year, is the most-nominated Latino artist this year with three nods.
The 34-year-old Colombian urban singer is nominated in the Best Dance category for “Say My Name,” his collaboration with David Guetta and Bebe Rexha.
J Balvin also earned two nominations in the Best Latin category. “I Can’t Get Enough,” his collaboration with Benny Blanco, Tainy and Selena Gomez, and “Con Altura,” his collaboration with Rosalia received recognition in the category.
Rosaliahas made history before a single award is even doled out.
The 25-year-old Spanish flamenco-fusion singer has earned a nod for Best New Artist, making her the first-ever Spanish-singing artist to be nominated in the category.
The “Malamente” singer is also nominated in the Best Latin category for “Con Altura,” her collaboration with J Balvin and El Guincho.
Selena Gomez, who won in the Best Popcategory in 2013 for “Come & Get It,” has earned two nods this year.
The 27-year-old Mexican American singer earned nods in the Best Latin and Best Dancecategories.
Other Latino nominees this year include Camila Cabello, CNCO, Demi Lovato, Ozuna, El Guincho, Karol G, Anuel AA, Daddy Yankee and Maluma.
Fans can vote in 14 VMA categories, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration. Voting concludes Thursday, August 15, except for the Best New Artist award, which will remain open until the VMA broadcast.
The 2019 awards will be broadcast live at 8:00 pm ET on Monday, August 26, from Prudential Centerin Newark, NJ.
