It’s a special first for Eva Calvo…
The 25-year-old Spanish taekwondo athlete lost to longtime rival Jade Jones of Great Britain in the finals of the Taekwondo Women’s 57 kg competition at the 2016 Rio Games, settling for the silver.
Jones, the defending Olympic champion, beat Calvo 16-7 in a brilliant performance.
After a cautious first round, Jones landed two quick-fire head shots to take a 6-0 lead.
Calvo’s coach appealed one of the attempts but failed to give the Brit a commanding advantage.
Gomez hit back as the pair traded blows in the second and a kick to the head made it 7-6. But Jones then closed out the win.
