Alex de Minaur is making history…

The 20-year-old Uruguayan and Spanish-Australian tennis playerbecame the youngest ever BB&T Atlanta Open champion on Sunday with a comprehensive 6-3, 7-6 (2) victory over American Taylor Fritz. 

De Minaur, who was born in Sydney, was razor-sharp from the beginning, coughing up just three unforced errors in the first set. de Minaur shrunk the court with his notorious quickness and consistency, forcing Fritz to play high-risk tennis on a day he simply didn’t have his best. 

Though he stands just six feet tall, de Minaur was unstoppable on serve all week. 

He joins John Isnerand Tommy Haasas the most recent players to win a tournament without facing a single break point. 

Isner did it two years ago in Newport and Haas accomplished the feat at Memphis in 2007. 

de Minaur won a staggering 94% of his first-serve points en route to his second ATP title of 2019. He won his first career title in January on his home soil in Sydney. 

Both players will be short on rest next week. Fritz will travel to Los Cabos, while de Minaur will head north to Washington, D.C to defend his final points from last year.
