Prince Royce is defying convention…
The 31-year-old Dominican-American bachata singer-songwriter will perform at next week’s Democratic National Convention.
Prince Royce joins a lineup that includes John Legend, The Chicks, Common, Billie Eilish, Leon Bridges, Jennifer Hudson, Billy Porter, Maggie Rogers, and Stephen Stills.
The artists will be featured at points throughout the four nights of the convention, which will air August 17-20, 2020.
“These artists are committed to engaging with, registering and mobilizing voters to get us over the finish line in November,” Stephanie Cutter, program executive for the convention, said in a statement.
Convention organizers said they’ll perform new songs and American classics. On Monday evening, youth choir members across the country will perform the National Anthem, with Commonwealth Youthchoirs arranging 57 members representing the 50 states and territories.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, almost all of the convention will take virtually, after Democrats scrapped plans for scheduled speakers like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to travel to host city Milwaukee.
Ricky Kirshner will serve as the executive producer of the DNC. He has previously produced the Tony Awards and several Super Bowl halftime shows.
