Christina Aguilera is staying True to her Mulan roots…
The 39-year-old half-Ecuadorian American Grammy-winning singer and former The Mickey Mouse Club member, has released the official music video for her single “Loyal Brave True,” her latest soundtrack offering for Disney‘s live-action Mulan film.
In the clip, Aguilera performs the emotive ballad while floating through a misty crimson dreamscape, interspersed with images of Liu Yifei‘s titular Chinese warrior from the live-action remake of the classic Disney princess story.
“Should I ask myself in the water/ What a warrior would do?/ Tell me, underneath my armor/ Am I loyal, brave and true?/ Am I loyal, brave and true?” she asks on the chorus while wearing an intricate black gown and bold topknot, calling back to the imagery of “Reflection,” her 1998 breakout hit from the original animated Mulan film.
Ahead of the remake, Aguilera also dropped a version of the song in Spanish — titled “El Mejor Guerrero” — and confirmed that she’s recorded an updated take on “Reflection,” which has yet to be released.
The video comes just 10 days after Disney announced it would be cancelling Mulan‘s planned theatrical release, following multiple delays and pushbacks as movie theaters around the globe have remained shuttered due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
The film was originally slated to hit screens on March 27 but was shuffled to July 24 and August 21 before being pulled from the calendar altogether.
Instead, Mulan is now set to premiere as a premium offering on Disney+ on September 4, making it the first major tentpole studio picture to make the move to a streaming release in the wake of the post-coronavirus media landscape.
